The Fenland Arts Development Scheme

In addition to writing my own poetry, I decided about 18 months ago that I would like to create opportunities for other poets and artists. As such, I approached my local MP, Steve Barclay, in the hope that he would be able to offer some advice. What resulted was a grant from Arts Council England and the creation of the Fenland Arts Development Scheme. There are three components to the scheme: 1) the Fenland Poet Laureate Competition (adult and young), 2) Wisbech Words Open Mic night & 3) the Fenland Poetry Journal, which I edit and is open to subs from poets worldwide.

I recently discussed the competition on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, a transcript is available under the competition heading on the drop down menu here: A further interview will be taking place in the next few days. If you live, work or attend school in Fenland, you are eligible to enter the competition.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the scheme, most notably Steve Barclay & CPP: Marketplace.
